Getting Started with Raspberry Pi 2

Hello all…If you have followed up what I’m recently hacking on, you’ll probably have heard of Raspberry Pi 2.  It’s a small and powerful computer board which can perform many functions. I’m gonna share the way I fired up my Pi 2.

First, let’s get the things that we want.

Tools and components:

1. A PC monitor (any brand will do)

2. A mouse

3. Keyboard

4. Micro-SD card (preferable 8GB and above)

5. Ethernet cable/Wifi adapter

I bought wifi adapter from a computer store nearby Bukit Beruang, Malacca.Cheap and realiable.

6. Power Supply adapter 5.0 V at constant 2.0 A output

7. Jumper wires (optional)

Raspberry Pi 2 contains 40 GPIO pins. I bought 40 jumper wires which comes     in a bundle.

That’s almost complete.

The first thing in installation process is to get the micro SD card and insert into the slot.

Next, install the PC monitor by connecting the HDMI cable. In my case, sadly I’m still using a VGA port on my monitor. I managed to grab one HDMI to VGA converter from Lowyat Plaza,KL. It costs me around RM 30. Connect each ends properly.

Installing keyboard and mouse.

Insert the plug of a 5.0 V power adapter into its socket.

I preferred to work on the hardware GPIO first so I have plugged the jumper wires directly into the GPIO connectors (male).

Here it is. Done.

When I have turned on the power supply…

The following things will appear on the monitor screen:

If it’s asking for login authorization stuff:

Login name         : pi
Password            : raspberry

That’s all ! Get yourself familiarize with the environment of linux-based operating system.

In my next part, I will share few useful resources that I’m using to explore on Pi 2.

See you soon.
